I'm John Duncan and I'm an artist living in the beautiful city of Charleston, South Carolina specializing in the creation of three dimensional portraits of homes, churches, buildings and scenes of the incredible architecture here in the Low Country.
I've done dozens of commissioned home portraits ranging from simple homesteads to grand mansions both here in Charleston and all across the country.
These portraits are comprised of literally thousands of individually hand cut pieces of 100% cotton paper. Starting with a highly detailed drawing , the basic structure is built "from the ground up". No detail is overlooked. From louvered shutters to swirling wrought iron gates and individual bricks, an exact replica of the building is then painted with water color, and piece by piece "built" Then the landscaping is added. From blooming magnolia trees to window boxes, the scene is created. The finished portrait is then double matted and framed in a 3" deep frame with TruView Museum Glass. The whole process can take as long as 250 hours to complete, and the finished product is as unique as the building itself! Picture sizes vary according to the project, but are based on a 16 X 20 starting point. Pricing starts at about $2000.00 for a full portrait, but there are many options also available, such as a portrait of the front door, or a porch or other unique element . Contact me, we'll talk!
Please take time to look through my website where you will find a gallery of my work, a look at the process of creating one of my portraits, a blog which I hope to update often with information and photos of my current projects and a look at some of my other artwork which will soon be available for purchase.
